Listen, It's Easy Podcast: What is the Sandwich Generation, what problems it solves and how we can avoid them
Miscellaneous / / April 03, 2023
We meet these people almost every day, and their experience can teach us a lot.
The age group of people aged 70 and over is now the fastest growing in Europe, Asia and the US. For comparison: in the 1950s, the elderly population on the planet was only 5%, and by about 2050 it is expected to be 16%. That is, in just 100 years, this figure will increase three times. To this conclusion came international group of scientists. They analyzed data collected in 204 countries over the past 30 years, from 1990 to 2019.
Another interesting fact from this study concerns life expectancy, which for the first time in world history has crossed the 70-year mark. To be more precise, people older than this age, on average, began to live two years longer.
Most often, the elderly are cared for by their children. And with increasing life expectancy, these children have time to grow up enough to become parents themselves. It is about such people and the difficulties they face that we describe in detail in the new issue.
