Standing science fiction before the age of Star Wars.
Game designer and film critic Hideo Kojima shared on Twitter with a list of their favorite science fiction films of the early 1970s. He notes that the paintings of that era not only gave warnings about a possible future, but also differed in philosophical depth and visual innovation. A list of recommendations is attached:
- "The Andromeda Strain" (1970)
- "Population Growth: Zero" (1972)
- "Silent Escape" (1972)
- Soylent Green (1973)
- "Zardoz" (1974)
- Rollerball (1975)
- "Logan's Run" (1976)
It is no coincidence that this decade has become rich in interesting films. In 1968, Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey was released, which revolutionized the genre. The director showed that science fiction can be not only for children and can reveal the topics of science, the future, art and philosophy.
As a result, since the early 70s, a lot of serious films inspired by the Odyssey began to come out. But in 1977, they were all eclipsed by Star Wars, and many predecessors were simply forgotten.
