Spawn is a very bright and strange film, it is no coincidence that it has an ambiguous reputation. By the way, on Kinopoisk he is valued higher than on IMDb: his rating is 6.8.
Interestingly, Mark A.Z. Dippe, for whom Spawn was the debut, never managed to build a successful career making cheap horror films.

Unusual costumes, sexual deviations and a crazy plot - the picture fell in love for many reasons, and the number of sequels and remakes long past ten.

Prior to Rosemary's Baby, Roman Polanski was best known for writing psychological thrillers. He also filmed one parody of horror - the comedy Vampire's Ball. It is all the more surprising that it was he who created one of the most scary movies in history, personally writing the script for it. It is noteworthy that Ruth Gordon, who plays one of the followers of the cult, received an Oscar for her role - the film academy has not yet had time to hate horror.
