The service was literally rebuilt from scratch, adding several visual improvements and new features.
Microsoft announced preview of the completely redesigned Teams app. Installing it is three times faster, and starting or joining meetings is twice as fast. In addition, the service now consumes 50% less memory and 70% less disk space.
The new Teams is faster, simpler, and more flexible than ever before. We've made huge strides in performance and usability. The service runs twice as fast, using 50% fewer resources.

Senior Vice President of Engineering, Microsoft Teams
Singh added that the company has been listening to user feedback that Teams is very bulky, slow, and drains laptop battery quickly. Microsoft set out to fix this years ago, but had to scale the service to meet the huge demand from millions of new users.
In the latest version, these problems are solved, and in addition, the developers have redesigned the interface, paying more attention to the Fluent design language. It now better matches the visual style of Windows 11.
The new Teams app uses native effects such as Windows 11 translucency and themes. Microsoft also changed the color of the canvas from gray to white and reduced the amount of purple accents. And of course, Teams now automatically switches to dark mode.
The developers emphasize that the new Teams is not only about appearance and performance. Microsoft has also added some useful improvements. If you have ever had problems switching between different accounts in your organization, the new client has a convenient view of notifications from all your profiles in a single menu.
In meetings, we finally added the automatic lowering of the raised hand after the person has made a speech. Collaboration whiteboards also have the ability to insert Loop components, and new AI-based filters for videos and the ability to change the tint of videos in presentations.
The new Microsoft Teams client is available in preview now as the company is gathering feedback before rolling it out to a wider audience later this year. You can access the app using the toggle in the top-left corner of the current Try the New Teams app.
