Postcards "Good morning!" and sudden audio calls. An instruction that will teach loved ones to communicate in messengers
Miscellaneous / / November 10, 2021
1. Don't split one message into several smaller ones
Try to summarize your thought briefly. If the interlocutor's smartphone is torn from incoming letters (remember that each message is most often accompanied by a sound signal or vibration), then the addressee will be angry, because such a cannonade distracts from important matters and increases the level anxiety. It makes no sense to send messages in a row like: "Hello!", "How are you?", "What are you doing?", "Can you talk?"
There is a simple rule: imagine that your phone goes down, and there is only enough charge for one small message and it is in it that you need to reflect the main thing. This will save the time and emotional strength of a relative who does not have to nervously wait until you bring your own thoughts to the end.
If the interlocutor did not get in touch within 2 minutes, immediately ask angry questions in the spirit of "Hey?" or "Why are you silent?" not worth it. The person may be busy, so a short delay in answering should not be taken as disrespect for you. If the pause for no particular reason dragged on for several hours, then it is better to just delicately remind yourself: messages like "Are you all right?" will be enough. True, it is better not to make loved ones worry: ideally, you should respond to the letter, for example, just warn you that you will answer a little later.
2. Express your thought briefly
Imagine a person leaving an important meeting to quickly read an incoming message. And in the chat - a huge message, to understand the essence of which the first time is impossible.
Messengers are designed for quick messaging, and mastering a canvas of text on the go is difficult: making your way through confused thicket of sentences, the interlocutor is unlikely to understand the main purpose of the letter from the first time and will be able to instantly give answer. Therefore, try to express your thoughts concisely, clearly and easily - this will greatly facilitate communication. For example, it would be useful to break the text into paragraphs or number questions to the addressee. And do not forget to re-read what is written: it is easy to make a typo in the stream of consciousness that distorts the essence of the message. If the question is not easy for the interlocutor, then arrange a call to discuss everything by voice.
3. Arrange video calls in advance
We simulate the situation: you clearly followed all the wishes from the previous paragraph and agreed to chat in the evening. The appointed hour has struck: you dial a loved one via video link, and for some reason he does not answer. What's the problem?
It's simple: even relatives are not ready for an unexpected video call. And this does not mean at all that they do not like you or ignore you: a person may look trite or be in an inappropriate environment. In order not to catch the interlocutor by surprise, be sure to arrange a conversation with the included cameras in advance. Moreover, it is better to place a special emphasis on this nuance: it is not always the case that the usual consent to "call" implies a conversation via video link.
4. Don't send endless or very short audio messages
The ability not only to hear, but also to see a person during a conversation is far from the only useful function of instant messengers. It is also convenient to send audio messages. True, they do not always make the recipient happy. For example, you cannot copy part of a recording to answer a certain thought. And there is no search by voice messages in messengers.
Listening to audio takes much longer than reading text. And if there are many more voices, and each of them contains a bunch of pauses, then the dialogue turns into hard labor. Therefore, ideally, before sending a voice message, you need to ask the consent of the interlocutor. And before clicking on the microphone icon, it is better to think in advance what exactly you want to say to the addressee. Follow the golden rule: minimum water - maximum benefit for the recipient!
By the way, throwing audio into a group chat without asking is not the best idea. This can cause a lot of inconvenience to people. Imagine: each participant in the conversation must take a break from work to listen to your audio!
Even if the older generation will sometimes freak out in chats, you should not refuse to communicate in instant messengers. This is a convenient way to stay connected at all times. Download for mom, dad and grandma Viber. It allows you to create group chats for the whole family, exchange messages and make audio and video calls. The messenger is available on phones, tablets and computers.
Download Viber5. Be vigilant and don't be fooled by fakes
If you received a message from an unknown sender with a text in the spirit of “URGENTLY send this to everyone! A friend of my sister said that... ", almost certainly in front of you - a fiction. Inaccurate and provocative information is often presented as a shocking exclusive from some acquaintance or distant relative. Moreover, such "letters of happiness" especially often began to come in the era of coronavirus, when attackers tried to sow panic among the older generation. To avoid falling for the tricks of deceivers and accidentally letting misinformation go further, ask yourself a few questions. Is the original source credible? Can I install it? For what purpose is this data disseminated? If at least something you are not sure, then do not share the message with loved ones.
Another fraudulent method is spam mailing with a request to transfer money for the treatment of a child. As a rule, a heartbreaking letter arrives, where "parents" describe a horrifying medical history and beg to donate at least a little money for an expensive operation. It is impossible to finish reading such a text without tears, so the hand seems to be reaching out to make the translation. But take your time. It is important to stop here and think: where did the interlocutor get your number from? Do you know the sender personally? If you are familiar, contact him and make sure the information is correct. If not, exhale and don't react. And in any case, do not follow unknown links - they may contain viruses.
6. Do not share your personal data in the messenger
No matter how convenient the exchange of quick messages is, you should not share in chats:
• your bank card number, as well as PIN- or CVC2 / CVV2-code (three digits on the back) from it;
• passport data;
• logins and passwords.
It is better to convey this information personally when you know exactly why the addressee needs it and are sure of its reliability. Otherwise, information can fall into the hands of intruders. For example, robbers, under any pretext, are trying to find out your bank card details. The standard way: a letter comes from an alleged bank employee who suggests that she fell into the hands of scammers. And to instantly block the account, you need to name the CVC2 / CVV2-code. Be careful: a real bank employee will never ask for such information!
Another scheme: a messenger receives a letter from a stranger who claims that he mistakenly indicated your number on some website. The interlocutor apologizes for his mistake and asks only to send the numbers that came via SMS. End the dialogue immediately: you are probably being asked to reveal a confirmation code to pay for a purchase on the Internet.
7. Don't overdo it with postcards and emoticons
Not everyone loves postcards with sequins, roses and kittens. Not only are such pictures hopelessly outdated, but they also clog up the phone's memory. In addition, it is not necessary to inform everyone about the coming of Apple Savior or World Beer Day. Some events do not deserve such close attention in the chat.
If you want to congratulate a relative on an important holiday, write everything in your own words. A template card can be perceived as an attempt to get out of the way.
You shouldn't get carried away with emoticons either: to express feelings in a message, one or two emoji is enough. Better yet, replace the usual heart with the warm phrase "I love you!"
8. Don't leave old chats and don't spam
If a chat is no longer relevant, it is not necessary to leave the conversation - this will open a real Pandora's box. As soon as you leave the group, all members will know about it and many will decide to leave the chat after you. This kind of sudden excitement will start to annoy the people who stay there. So don't leave the group - don't make a mistake!
And everyone is annoyed by the interlocutors who always send calls to the dialogues to like the photo or vote in some poll. Of course, there is nothing shameful in asking for help, but it is undesirable to get carried away with such agitation: what more often you will annoy people with such offers, the more likely it will be turned off in a dialogue with you notifications. Remember: the key to healthy communication is respect for the personal boundaries of the addressee!
You can keep in touch with your family at Viber: in the messenger it is convenient to communicate in group chats, exchange photos, record voice messages and short videos. Relatives will be able to make audio and video calls and even call landline and mobile numbers to contacts that are not in Viber. The messenger has funny stickers for all occasions, and you can also create your own, for example, make a sticker pack about your family.
