Scientists show how the Earth has changed in 100 million years
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
Scientists from the University of Sydney (Australia) have created a model of the geological changes of the Earth over 100 million years. To do this, they used data on geodynamics, tectonic and climatic forces with surface processes, and other weather information. results research were published in the journal Science.
Lead author of the work, Dr. from the University of Sydney Tristan Salles notesthat the team was able to achieve very high accuracy. The model demonstrates geological changes with a resolution of up to 10 kilometers and million-year frames.
This work for the first time allows us to understand how modern geophysical landscapes were created, and how millions of tons of sedimentary rocks fell into the world's oceans.
This model shows not only the past, but also the future, the authors of the study note. On its basis, it is possible to predict the forthcoming geological changes of the Earth.
