Tecno unveils a chameleon material that changes the color of a smartphone

The Chinese company Tecno showed Chameleon Coloring technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). When used in a mobile device, such as the back of a smartphone, it can change its color with the press of a button, writes GSMArena.

Chameleon Coloring is a technology of submicron prismatic elements driven by an electric field. It refracts light at different wavelengths and creates a wide range of iridescent colors. That is, Chameleon Coloring does not produce light like a screen panel, but only reflects it with its surface.

The new technology is manually operated. You can choose from 1600 different colors. Or customize specific shades based on battery level, music played, and notifications.

It is noted that the technology allows you to change shades up to 2 million times. Switching occurs in 0.03 seconds. And at the same time, the “chameleon” is quite energy-intensive - 100 changes during the day require as much energy as watching a 5-minute video.

This is not the first such development by Tecno. Last year, the company launched the Techno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition smartphone, which changes the color of the back panel when exposed to sunlight.
