They will not be associated with the Amazon series.
Warner Bros. and New Line concluded a new multi-year agreement with the Embracer Group, which owns the rights to adaptations of John R. R. Tolkien. This will allow WB to make new films based on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
The studio has already confirmed the desire to release several full-length films, returning to the world of Middle-earth. What events they will be devoted to is not yet reported, but the Embracer Group noted that they are not going to rewrite the history of the Peter Jackson trilogies.
We understand the value of these pictures, and working with our partners New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, we plan to honor the past, look to the future and maintain the highest levels of quality and production values.

It is also noted that if Amazon in its series focuses on the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of the films, the WB film rights focus on the Third Age, when the most famous events took place. It is possible that the studio could return to the characters of Gandalf and Aragorn, telling other stories with their participation.
