Microsoft is now showing a huge banner on the Chrome site to keep you on Edge
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
In competition, all means are good.
Microsoft Edge, the default browser in Windows 10 and 11, is used by many users exclusively to download Chrome. And this is so frustrating for Microsoft that it constantly comes up with new tricks to keep users from switching to a competitor's solution. Another attempt to keep the audience surpassed all previous ones.
Two banners are now displayed in the browser when trying to install Chrome using Edge. The first, small, appears on the screen when you go to the Google website, and the second, already full-width of the screen, is displayed after the page loads.
A large banner says that Edge uses the same technologies as Chrome, but with "the added trust of Microsoft."
To be fair, Microsoft isn't the only one doing questionable things to grow its user base. Google also displays banners to promote Chrome, but they only appear on the company's resources. Google doesn't advertise on the Firefox website and doesn't yell whenever you want to download a different browser.
