Chrome introduces memory and battery saving modes
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
In the stable version Chrome 110 Finally, there are two useful features that tested at the end of last year: memory saving and power saving modes.
The names here speak for themselves. When Memory Saver is enabled, Chrome pauses the refresh of unused tabs to free up RAM for other tasks. When you click on such a “frozen” tab, it becomes active again.
Power saving mode will be useful for laptops. It allows you to reduce the load on the battery by simplifying some animations and lowering the frame rate of the video.
You can adjust both modes for yourself in the "Performance" settings item. Here you can enable or disable features, and configure activation and exclusion scripts.
How to enable new modes in Chrome
Now Google is actively distributing the update to all users of the browser on macOS, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS. If you don't have these features yet, you can turn them on manually.
To do this, follow these links:
- chrome://flags/#battery-saver-mode-available
- chrome://flags/#high-efficiency-mode-available
In both cases, you need to select the Enabled option in the drop-down list next to the highlighted item.
Then restart your browser for the changes to take effect. The necessary items should be displayed in the settings.
