WhatsApp on iOS now supports picture-in-picture mode

Whatsapp developers have released update 23.3.77 for iOS, which adds a picture-in-picture mode for video calls.

The function works the same way as in FaceTime and other similar services: when you click a special icon, the video is reduced to a window that will hang on top of any open windows. You can drag it around the screen and use your smartphone without being distracted from the call.

But this is not the only innovation of the latest version. Here's what else has been added:

• When sending documents, you can now add a signature.
• The group description field now accommodates more characters.
• Now you can create personalized avatars and use them as stickers and profile pictures. You can configure this in the Avatar settings menu.

Also earlier this month whatsapp started testing decoding voice messages. So far, the feature is only available in beta, when it will appear in the stable version is unknown.
