Podcast "Listen, it's easy": what is panspermia and what other hypotheses are trying to explain the emergence of life on Earth
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
We analyze several versions: from “seeds” from space to RNA molecules in the ancient ocean.
It is generally accepted that the age of our planet is 4.5 billion years. And life on earth originated about 3.5 billion years ago. That is, roughly a billion years, the Earth was uninhabited. Our house, let's say, was under construction.
But in recent research a team of scientists from different countries puts forward new hypothesis. The fact that the first life on Earth could have appeared earlier than the generally accepted period: after about 300 million years after the formation of the planet, and not a billion. This conclusion is based on the discovery - a stone, whose age may exceed 4.2 billion years.
We will talk about panspermia, the theory of the primordial soup and other hypotheses that try to explain how, where and under what conditions on Earth the first living organisms could be born.
