IPhone 15's USB-C port will only support certified accessories

Lightning will go, but MFi will remain.
At this stage, it is no longer a secret that the iPhone 15 line is the first in the history of Apple smartphones. will receive USB-C connector. Apple was ordered to do this to avoid fines in Europe due to the use of a proprietary connector. However, this does not mean that Apple cannot continue to force users to buy certified accessories.
On Weibo appeared new data from a chip expert who has worked with Intel for 25 years (at least in his own words). He claims that Apple has developed a USB-C variant for the iPhone 15 that will contain a chip to check the authenticity of cables. This has been used in Lightning for a long time: the connector verifies that the wire has passed the Made for iPhone (MFi) certification. If the verification fails, a notification appears on the smartphone screen that the accessory is not supported.
Technically non-certified accessories still work, but for safety reasons, the charging and data transfer speeds are significantly reduced.
For successful verification, the cable must have an authentication chip. For Apple, this is a good way to make money: so that the user does not experience problems with the cable, he needs to buy an original accessory or a third-party MFi-certified cable (for which Apple also receives commission). At the same time, this approach allows you to deal with fakes and unreliable accessories that can disable your smartphone.
Thus, even after the transition to USB-C, Apple will be able to maintain income from the sale of accessories and MFi certification. It is noteworthy that current iPads with USB-C do not have such a verification chip. If the leak turns out to be true, then the iPhone 15 connectors will be the first of their kind.
