Chrome will allow you to run in picture-in-picture mode not only video
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
In a small window, you can place a "pomodoro" timer or notepad.
Chrome 111 beta has a new feature that makes picture-in-picture much more useful. If now the mode is used mainly for video and background music, then the new version will be useful for productivity and multitasking.
Now the new mode is called Document Picture-in-Picture. Some pomodoro timers already support this in compatible browsers, allowing the timer window to hang on top of the main page without having to constantly switch between tabs. In the same format, it will be convenient to keep notes, checklists or, say, a playlist from a streaming service at hand.
Judging by tracker new Chrome features, this option will be tested up to Chrome 115 - and only then they will decide on a public release. Given that version 110 came out most recently, waiting for 115 is worth the summer.
If you want to try out the new mode right now, just follow the link chrome://flags/#document-picture-in-picture-api and move the highlighted item to the Enabled position. Currently, not many sites support this function, but gradually their number will increase.
