MacOS Ventura users complain about "Background objects added" notifications
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
You can't completely eliminate them, but you can at least reduce the number.
Users Reddit And forum Apple support complains that with the update to macOS Ventura, computers started spamming “Background Items Added” notifications from various applications.
The worst thing is that such notifications do not disappear after a while, but remain on the screen, and you need to close them manually.
This can be caused by objects from the "Open at login" section, and applications with objects running in the background. Even if you disable background work, notifications can still appear. So, they are displayed when the user:
- includes Mac;
- restarts the Mac;
- switches between users;
- opens the "Login Items" settings item.
Lifehacker confirmed such a problem on one of the MacBooks. In this particular case, we are talking about spam notifications from one application, but some users receive a bunch of notifications from different programs at once.
There is no reliable way to get rid of these notifications, but you can try to reduce their number.
How to Remove "Background Objects Added" Notifications on Mac
This method is not recommended for most users. The files that cause this problem are often also required for the program to work correctly. In the best case, the application will simply restore them the next time it is launched and the notifications will continue, in the worst case, it will stop working altogether.
However, there is one situation where the benefit clearly outweighs: if notifications come from applications that you have long deleted, but there are still residual files on the disk. To remove them:
- Open Finder and press ⌘ + ⇧ + G (or choose Go → Go to Folder from the top bar).
- In the search bar, type ~/Library/LaunchAgents and press Enter.
- In the folder that opens, delete the PLIST files associated with the desired program (as a rule, the developer will be indicated in the name). Do not remove PLIST from the programs you need!
- Open the folder window again and type ~/Library/LaunchDaemons, then press Enter. Not all users have this folder: if the transition fails, then you do not have it.
- If the folder is open, repeat step 3.
After that, restart your computer or open Login Items to see if everything worked.
This problem was first noticed in the macOS Ventura beta. In the current build 13.2.1, which was released on February 13, notifications are still not fixed, so affected users will have to wait for the next updates.
