The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute has released a video with previously unreleased footage of the Titanic that sank in the Atlantic. This video was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film of the same name by James Cameron.
The footage was taken in July 1986 by researchers from the Oceanographic Institute. They used the cameras of the Alvin manned submersible and the Jason Jr. remotely controlled module.
In the video, you can see many elements of the ship's plating and its upper deck, as well as some elements of decor and interior decoration. The quality of the picture is quite low, but it is worth making an allowance for the year of shooting and the conditions - the wreckage of the Titanic rests at a depth of 3750 meters.
The liner sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York after colliding with an iceberg on the night of 14/15 April 1912. This disaster claimed the lives of 1496 people. The resting place of the Titanic was not discovered until September 1985.
