The novelty is not only cheaper, but also comes without advertising.
The Canadian company Kobo showed a new e-reader Clara 2E, which foreign media call a competitor Kindle Paper White. Comparing the devices of these companies suggests itself: Kindle is owned by Amazon, and Kobo is owned by Rakuten, one of the largest Japanese marketplaces.
Clara 2E received a 6-inch Carta 1200 HD screen with ComfortLight PRO backlight, which allows you to adjust the brightness and temperature. To reduce eye strain, there is a blue light filter and a dark mode.
Built-in memory 16 GB. This is enough to download 12,000 e-books or 75 in audio format (based on 1.3 MB per book and 28.8 MB per hour for an audio book, with an average length of 6.5 hours). There are no details about autonomy: it is only reported that without charging the reader will work for “several weeks”.
The body of the book is 85% recycled plastic. It is protected from moisture according to the IPX8 standard: it will survive an hour of immersion in water to a depth of 2 meters.
Kobo Clara 2E will go on sale on September 22 for $130 (≈7,900 rubles). By comparison, the base 2021 Kindle Paperwhite costs $140. In this case, we are talking about a version with 8 GB of memory and advertising. True, she has a slightly larger screen: 6.8-inch.
