Statistics have shown that pedometers make us move more, which in the long run allows you to get rid of a couple of extra pounds.
Scientists from Australia analyzed almost 400 scientific papers that studied how to wear fitness trackers affect the increase in physical activity and related physiological and psychosocial outcomes. It turned out that the bracelets encourage people to take about 1,800 extra steps daily. StudyEffectiveness of wearable activity trackers to increase physical activity and improve health: a systematic review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in The Lancet.
In total, the studied works provided data on about 164 thousand people around the world. A meta-analysis of their activity showed that with a fitness bracelet, walking time increased by an average of 40 minutes per day, which contributed to a decrease in body weight of about 1 kg over several months.
Weight loss of 2 pounds over three to six months, which has been the typical length of study in analysis is significant in terms of public health, offsetting approximately two to three years of recruitment weight.

The impact on other physiological and psychosocial aspects was usually small and often negligible. However, in people with type 2 diabetes and some other conditions, increasing activity with a fitness tracker helped lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Scientists notedthat the described benefits speak not so much about the usefulness of pedometers, but about the importance of these devices for changing people's behavior, their habits and lifestyle in the long term.
Trackers make it easier to integrate physical activity into everyday life and motivate you to take more steps. However, all this will not happen only with the help of a bracelet - a persistent increase in physical activity is more likely, if the gadget is part of a thoughtful approach based on behavioral science, added one of the authors research.
