How to feed flowers to get beautiful flower beds
Miscellaneous / / July 11, 2022
If everything is done correctly, the buds will bloom one by one.
When to feed flowers
As soon as you see that the plants have begun to bud, it's time to give them extra nutrition. From this moment until the end of flowering, you can fertilize with mineral fertilizers once every 1-2 weeks or use organic matter once.
How to feed flowers
Phosphorus and potassium are primarily responsible for lush long flowering. Therefore, you need to choose mineral or organic fertilizers with a high content of these elements. Complex products intended for flowering plants are also suitable. They contain a balanced combination of substances that stimulate the active setting and development of buds.
There are two ways to feed plants: root and foliar. In the first case, the nutrient mixture is poured into the soil under the root, in the second, the leaves are abundantly sprayed. Wherein mineral fertilizers use in any of the options, and organic are only suitable for root dressing.
Mineral fertilizers
You can choose one of the solutions and use it every 1-2 weeks until the end of flowering, or alternate them as desired.
- Take 10 g of superphosphate and potassium sulfate, dissolve in 10 liters of water and water the plants under the root. The mixture is enough for about 1 m² of flower beds.
- Dilute 1 teaspoon of potassium monophosphate in 10 liters of water and water the plants under the root (enough for 1 m²) or spray the leaves liberally.
- Fertilizers with a uniform distribution of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are also suitable - for example, 18: 18: 18. Such funds are bred according to the instructions and make life easier for summer residents, especially if you don’t want to understand the nuances of top dressing.
organic fertilizers
Such natural dressings are suitable for perennials, but for annuals - for example, petunias, marigolds, asters and nasturtiums - it is better not to use them. The use of organics for these plants leads to the opposite effect - it inhibits flowering.
- Dilute 1 liter of chicken manure in 20 liters of water and leave the mixture to infuse in a warm place for 10-14 days. Dilute 1 liter of the prepared solution with 10 liters of water and water the plants under the root. This volume is enough for about 1 m² of flower beds.
- Dilute 1 kg of rotted cow or horse manure with 5 liters of water. The mixture must be kept for a week in a warm place, stirring occasionally. The finished concentrate is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 3. The resulting solution is poured under the root at the rate of 1–1.5 liters per plant.
How to properly feed flowers
Root top dressing is carried out early in the morning or in the evening after sunset. It is better to water the plants with nutrient mixtures on moist soil so as not to burn the roots, and then you can gently loosen the soil in the flower bed.
Spray the leaves with fertilizer in the evening after sunset, because the bright light will evaporate the nutrients faster than they have time to act. And the sun, combined with chemicals, can burn plants.
