Chrome lets you use your laptop's fingerprint scanner to access saved passwords
Miscellaneous / / July 08, 2022
Chrome 106 for Mac and Windows will learn how to use biometrics to access saved Google Passwords - just like it works with face and fingerprint scanners in the mobile version browser. It will be enough to bring your finger to the laptop's fingerprint scanner to view passwords to different sites.
A similar option is already present in Safari for Mac with Touch ID, but it's harder to implement in Chrome, because the browser is available on a huge number of devices with different scanners and standards security.
Interestingly, the new feature has not yet been announced for ChromeOS, although most Chromebooks come with fingerprint scanners.
It is not yet known when Chrome 106 will be available to users, but for now, version 103, released for PC on July 4, is relevant. In the beta version, the feature is disabled by default, but it can be activated in the settings. Perhaps after updating to version 106, the user will be shown a dialog box asking them to enable biometrics if it is supported on their device.
