Apple changes strategy: now only iPhone Pro models will receive the latest processors

In March, rumors first appeared on the Web that Apple would increase the differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Then it was reported that the latest A16 Bionic processor will receive only Pro-versions of smartphones, while the base models will remain on last year's A15 Bionic. This information later confirmed Bloomberg and now renowned insider Ming-Chi Kuo.

By data source, the differences in the filling of smartphones of the same line are not dictated by a shortage of chips, but by Apple's new business strategy. By increasing the number of benefits of the iPhone 14 Pro, the manufacturer hopes to make more expensive models even more popular among consumers.

If previously it was expected that by the end of 2022 the iPhone 14 Pro will account for 40% to 50% of sales of new models, now this estimate has been raised to 60%.

Kuo confirms that from now on, the latest Apple chips will be exclusive to the top Pro versions. In other words, the company will no longer release regular iPhones with their latest chips.

If this is confirmed, then the quartet of iPhone 13 models will be the last in Apple's history with the same processors. However, the new strategy based on flagships can hardly be called unexpected. Apple is doing something similar with its iPad line, where more expensive models use the same chips as Macs, while cheaper tablets use iPhone chips.

Recall also that four Apple smartphones are expected next fall: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max (6.7-inch version that will replace mini), iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The last two will differ not only in chips, but also in cameras and screens.
