Microsoft is preparing to say goodbye to Windows 8.1

Microsoft trains Notifying users of Windows 8.1 that support for the OS will end on January 10, 2023. These alerts will begin arriving on devices as early as next month.

The notifications will be similar to those Microsoft has used in the past to remind Windows 7 users of end-of-support dates.

Microsoft will not offer the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 8.1, so businesses will not be able to pay for additional bug fixes. Anyone who wishes to stay on this OS will have to take all the risks.

• Windows 8.1 was largely a work around the misperceptions that were made in Windows 8. The latter, introduced in 2012, was touch-oriented and ditched the traditional desktop with the Start button, which few people liked.
• Windows 8.1 brought Start back in 2013, and Microsoft later admitted they made a mistake with the rails change. Came out in 2015 Windows 10, with which the company tried to turn the page of unsuccessful experiments.
• Now users of Windows 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10, which will be supported until October 14, 2025.

In Russia, with the Microsoft OS update, there are now some Problems, but with a VPN they are easily solved.
