UN says climate change threatens half of humanity

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, speaking on Tuesday via video link to the participants of the Austrian world summit, said that climate change already poses a threat to about half of all humanity. About it writes TASS.
The window of opportunity to avert the worst effects of the climate crisis is rapidly closing. Our planet has already warmed by 1.2 degrees. To stay within the 1.5 degree threshold, we need to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach zero net emissions by mid-century.
António Guterres
The secretary general added that maintaining the current national commitments will lead to an increase in emissions of almost 14% over this decade. Last year, carbon dioxide emissions increased by 6% instead of the necessary reduction.
Let me be clear: national commitments are not enough. And this is not just my opinion. While the authorities of many countries are playing for time, inaction leads to dire consequences. Climate change is already being felt, and about half of humanity is in the danger zone.
António Guterres
Recently the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reportedthat in 2021 four climate change records were broken at once.
