Pavel Durov announced Telegram Premium subscription

Pavel Durov finally confirmed the launch of a premium subscription in Telegram in June. It will allow anyone to get additional features, speed and resources.

Durov explained the need for such a solution by the fact that many users have long asked to remove the current restrictions in the messenger. The service could take such a step, but then the costs of servers and traffic would become unmanageable, and "the party, unfortunately, would be over for everyone."

The appearance of a premium subscription does not introduce any restrictions for current messenger users. All existing features remain free, and there will be many new features. Moreover, even users without Telegram Premium will be able to get some subscription benefits: for example, they will be able to view very large documents, media, and stickers sent Premium users.

Durov added that while experimenting with privacy-focused advertising in public channels is “one to many" proved to be successful, Telegram should be funded primarily by users, not advertisers. Thus, users will always remain the top priority of the service.
