You can set up a free connection for everyone or set a password for the connection.
Today, Bluetooth audio devices are more popular than ever, but until now, sharing has been limited to streaming audio to one or two gadgets. However, thanks to a new technology called Auracast, it will be possible to broadcast sound to all Bluetooth accessories within range at once.
Auracast technology was announced by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG). The development is based on the existing Audio Sharing feature that is part of the LE Audio protocol. The latter only provides point-to-point communication and audio sharing with two headphones or speakers, but Auracast removes these limitations.
The Bluetooth SIG notes that the user interface will be similar to that used in public Wi-Fi networks. Broadcasting can also be restricted to certain devices that have correct password.
This means that it will be possible to organize a connection to a TV in a public place or, for example, broadcast one music playlist in the gym for all visitors. In addition, Auracast will improve the sound experience for people who need hearing aids.
Peter Liu, system architect for Pixel Ecosystem Products at Google, publicly endorsed the project and praised the fruitful work with the Bluetooth SIG. This may indicate that Auracast will appear on Pixel devices first. Also, Xiaomi is already working on the introduction of new technology, notes tech spot.
The final Auracast specification will be released in the coming months.
