Apple Watch wants to add a camera
Miscellaneous / / June 01, 2022
For now, it's just a patent.
Apple received new patent for smart watch with camera. Among the possible placement options is the Digital Crown housing on the right side of the device.
To do this, Apple plans to cover the top of the wheel with glass with a touchscreen, and the camera flash is also proposed to be used for optical heart rate monitoring.
The patent also explains how the user will be able to take photos. When you start the camera, the display will act as a viewfinder, and a shutter button will be displayed on it. It is likely that the app will also have the ability to take pictures with quick gestures, such as clenching a fist or tilting the wrist.
This isn't the first patent to describe an Apple Watch with photography capabilities. For example, back in June 2019, the company received a patent for an Apple Watch strap with a built-in rotating camera. And an even earlier Apple patent proposes to place the camera under the watch display. It sounds like a good solution, but so far, under-screen camera technology has not been developed enough. And Apple, as we know, prefers not to experiment with new products, but to use proven and refined technologies in its technology.
