The astronauts will spend 30 days on the surface of the Red Planet.
NASA plans to send astronauts on a 30-day mission to Mars, and the space agency recently shared plans for the mission. So far, this is only a concept, before the implementation of which many more years of careful development and preparation are needed.
The mission will consist of two people, and its main goals will be to prove the possibility of life and work on the Martian surface. This means streamlining operations and establishing command, control and coordination between astronauts and between Earth and Mars. In addition, NASA has set several dozen scientific goals, which can be found at this page.
Of course, this mission will not be easy. It’s worth starting at least with the fact that now we don’t have the technologies suitable for exploring Mars. So far, scientists and engineers continue to look for ways to let people breathe on Mars, whether through special suits or stationary oxygen generators.
In addition, a 30-day mission to Mars means astronauts will have to spend months in microgravity. Once they reach the Red Planet, they will have to recover before they can operate in partial gravity. NASA notes that one possible way to solve this problem is to put astronauts in a pressurized rover during their mission.
Even with an optimistic scenario, this mission will take place only at the end of the 2030s. It is not yet clear how advanced our technologies will be by then - moreover, when planning this flight to Mars will take into account the results of the Artemis space program to send people to moon.
