Electronic Arts has officially announced a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises, the company that owns the rights to some elements of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The result of this partnership will be the mobile game The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth.
This is a collectible RPG set in the Lord of the Rings setting. EA promises compelling storytelling, turn-based combat, a sophisticated collection system, and a large roster of characters from the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit universe. Players will be able to participate in important events described in Tolkien's books and fight the great evil of Middle-earth.
The development is carried out by the Capital Games studio, which released Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, a mobile game in the same genre based on the Star Wars universe.
Closed beta testing starts in some regions this summer. According to the press release, the game will require a permanent internet connection and will offer built-in purchases, including "random items" - in other words, we are waiting for loot boxes from the world Middle-earth.
