Users of Russian UnionPay cards started having problems
Miscellaneous / / April 22, 2022
Demand in Russia for payment system cards UnionPay remains hype, but their owners have already begun to face difficulties. Increasingly, such cards are not accepted for paying for goods in online stores, writes "Kommersant".
According to the source, the problem is in foreign online stores that have decided not to serve the Russians, although the sanctions do not provide for this. Acquiring banks simply do not process payments with cards issued in Russia, regardless of the payment system.
According to Dmitry Vishnyakov, an independent expert on the payment card market, the restrictions may be related to a simple technological solution - instead of figuring out whether the bank that issued the card is under sanctions or not, outlets prefer to block the whole country.
UnionPay itself could influence this situation, but, apparently, representatives of the system decided not to interfere yet.
