I think I finally managed to come up with easy-to-yourself storage folders and files on your computer. For the past year, my desktop is empty and the «Downloads» Folder rarely contains anything more than a couple of svezheskachennyh films.
Firstly, all the files stored in Dropbox. Have a subscription to 100GB, are completely satisfied.
At the root of some of the main folders:
"2013" - a working draft of the year
«Ilya Petrov» - own projects
«Folder of Wisdom» - books, lectures, presentations, studies
«Life» - personal information about travel, life planning, etc.
«Camera Uploads» - Automatic synchronization of iPhone photos with Dropbox
Folders work projects and its own organized on a similar principle. In the folder "2013" projects are stored as follows: 2013 / client / month - Project / Phase number - Stage / Files. In «Ilya Petrov» (it is necessary to come up with already some cool name) folder: Ilya Petrov / month - Project / Number stage - Stage / Files. For example, in «Ilya Petrov» is a folder "06 - Strategy Deck 'folder from the month of June, in which there are stages of" 00 - Documents, "" 01 - Planning, "" 02 - Design ", etc.
Why is it convenient?
The main magic happens due to the fact that the information is organized not only in meaning, but also the logic of the flow of projects. The natural sorting, you will always see the latest projects, and do not need to look through the names of all 50 folders in a directory to find the right customer or job. So it is inside a folder, the information is divided not only on the design / drafts / references of / ideas, and the "Analysis", "Preparation of proposals", "the first presentation to the client," "The second presentation," etc.
The «Life» folder, there are a few important folders:
«Documents» - electronic copies of various documents
«Iam» - my photos for any presentations and conferences
