What to do if you are disappointed in your new job

1. Find the root cause of disappointment
Most often, this feeling arises when the inspiration from a new job passes or the first difficulties in communicating with colleagues appear. However, it is worth immediately eliminating several dangerous signals, after which it is definitely time to leave. According to the co-founder of the recruiting agency Gillian Williams, they include any immoral, unethical or even illegal behavior. “You should never be put in a situation where you have to give up your values and principles,” the expert adds.
Another significant reason for dismissal is the deterioration of physical or mental health and work stress, which begins to affect personal life.
2. Give work time
Few people manage to instantly get used to a new place or join an unfamiliar team, especially when working remotely. If nothing critical is happening in the company, give yourself three or four months to get comfortable.
3. Look for the cause of burnout outside of work
Sometimes it is very easy to associate the emergence of certain feelings with the beginning of a new job. In fact, our emotions are much more multifaceted. That is why it is important to consider other factors that may have led to burnout, such as personal relationships with a partner or with children.
4. Deal with your expectations
Another reason why we feel disappointed is the discrepancy between our position on paper and in real life. In this case, the whole thing may be a misunderstanding, and it is worth talking with the manager.
“Sometimes it seems to us that the only way out is to quit. But then, when we start discussing the problem with other people, it turns out that everything we need is already under our noses, ”notes career expert Minda Hearts. 5. Leave with dignity
If you've tried everything and nothing has worked, it might be time for you to leave.
The main thing is to deal with finances first. If you plan to take a short break before the next job, it is worth providing a "airbag" for 3-6 months. With other plans, it is better to first find a new place, and only then leave the old one.
In all other respects, you should follow the standard steps: announce your departure in advance, notify your boss, and transfer matters to the employee who will take over your position after you.
To avoid disappointment next time, it is important to find a job that will suit you in all respects. And for this, first of all, you need to understand yourself and your values.
Analyze or even write down all the key factors that are important to you in your work. Add as many details as possible: your main requirements, expectations, the pace of work that is comfortable for you, and other characteristics of it. This will help you evaluate vacancies correctly.
