WhatsApp announces communities for groups and adds reactions to messages

whatsapp on my blog introduced Communities is a new feature that allows users to bring individual groups together under one roof and manage them more effectively.

This allows users to receive updates sent to the entire community and easily follow group discussions.

An example is the distribution of important information by the principal of the school to all parents of students in groups of different classes.

Community admins will be able to send announcements to everyone at once and decide which groups to add to the community. All communication takes place with support for end-to-end encryption.

A number of improvements are also being made to the operation of the WhatsApp groups themselves:

• Reactions will appear - this is the ability to respond to messages using emoticons without overloading the chat.
• Group admins will be able to remove erroneous and inappropriate messages from all chats.
• It will be possible to send files up to 2 GB in size, which will greatly simplify the collaboration on projects.

• The number of participants in an audio call will increase to 32 people. The interface will also change.

These features will be added in the coming weeks, with the communities themselves due later this year. WhatsApp does not name the exact dates.
