Five films were originally planned.
The management of the Warner Bros. film company. until the fourth installment in the Fantastic Beasts franchise was greenlit. The fate of the sequel was in question due to the falling box office and a number of scandals involving actors and writer JK Rowling. About it writes edition of Variety.
To the already difficult breakup with Rowling and Depp, the incident with Ezra Miller (Creedence) was recently added, who was arrested for disorderly conduct in one of the Hawaiian bars. And this is not the first time, so the WB paused all projects with his participation, including “Flashwhere he has the lead role.
Such problems, combined with creative failures, became a real headache for the film studio. Analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations notes that Fantastic Beasts is a major franchise for the WB, like its Star Wars. It should be a gem in the collection, but it doesn't look like one at all today.
The situation with high budgets and low box office complicates everything. The Dumbledore Mysteries cost Warner Bros. about $ 200 million, although initially they wanted to spend about 100 million on the film, thereby reducing financial risks.
So far, the third part has been published only in some countries, and it is too early to draw conclusions regarding financial success. However, if you believe first reviews, The Dumbledore Mysteries is certainly not without flaws. The success of the picture now depends on the two final films that were planned to complete the story.
