8 interesting details from Soviet cartoons that you didn't notice
Miscellaneous / / April 22, 2022
Many people know Soviet cartoons literally by heart. But even in favorite works there are details that viewers do not pay attention to or quickly forget. Lifehacker recalls some moments.
1. "Holidays in Prostokvashino": what is the name of the postman Pechkin
In children's works, the authors often give the characters only a first or last name, so as not to overload the plot with unnecessary information. It is this approach that can be observed in the famous series of cartoons about the village of Prostokvashino. The main character here is simply called Uncle Fyodor, the names of his parents are not mentioned at all - in the books of Eduard Uspensky they are Rimma and Dmitry Svekolnikov.
In the same way, the harmful resident of Prostokvashino - the postman Pechkin - is called exclusively by his last name. And only once in all three classic cartoons his name and patronymic are heard. In the second series, the mother, who has just arrived in the village, happily throws herself on his neck with exclamations: "Hello, dear Igor Ivanovich." True, in response, Pechkin demands to give him a new hat.
By the way, Uncle Fyodor's sister Vera Pavlovna appeared in the new cartoons. To the questions of the audience, what is her middle name and does it bother Dmitry's dad, the director of Soyuzmultfilm answeredSoyuzmultfilm explained the strange patronymic of Uncle Fyodor's sister / RIA Novosti: "This is a bug. We don't plan to fix it."
2. "Crocodile Gena": who this character worked for
All fans of the famous series of cartoons by Roman Kachanov based on the books of Eduard Uspensky probably remember that the main character was fond of chess, smoked a pipe and helped others. But besides that, he had a real profession.
Crocodile Gena worked at the zoo... as a crocodile. Together with the rest of the animals, he came and went according to the schedule, checking in at the checkpoint. During work, he took off his suit and sat behind the fence.
By the way, in Ouspensky's original book, he even had a partner who worked the second shift - crocodile Valera.
3. "Kid and Carlson": how many children were in the family
In the popular Soviet cartoon based on the series of books by Astrid Lindgren, the Kid spends almost all his time only in the company of his new friend Carlson. And his parents are constantly absent - probably working. It may seem that he is the only child in the family.
But many viewers probably remember how the young hero asked his mother if he would have to marry his brother's ex-wife when he died.
But what you probably forgot: the Kid also has a sister. All relatives flash at the very beginning of the cartoon during a feast. And then the whole family, except for the main character, goes to the cinema.
By the way, in the cartoons, the Kid is called only by this nickname. But in the books he has a name - Svante Svanteson. The siblings' names are Bosse and Bethan.
4. "The Secret of the Third Planet": what is the position of the Green
In the cartoon about the adventures of Alisa Selezneva, the main character, along with her father, a professor, travels to different planets in search of rare animals. On the space on the ship they fly together: the grouchy Green helps the father and daughter.
Already at the very beginning of the cartoon, the caption indicates that he is the captain. However, those who read books or watched other adaptations of Bulychev's books (for example, "Purple Ball") know that Zeleny has always been a mechanic. And even in the story "Alice's Journey", on which the cartoon is based, captain Poloskov steered the ship.
Apparently, in order to reduce the number of characters, Zeleny was temporarily promoted. But out of habit, he continues to repair the ship himself. Moreover, in this version, both Seleznev himself and even young Alice easily control aircraft.
5. "Like Cossacks ...": what are the names of the main characters
It’s worth warning right away that in this case the question is not entirely honest, since it is not answered in any cartoon of the series. However, the whole trio of daring Cossacks who helped aliens and fought the Greek gods have names.
The author of the cartoons Vladimir Dakhno himself spoke about this, describing his characters in interviewHow Vladimir Dakhno "Kazakov" painted / "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”: “One turned out to be round and small. He is the fastest of all, besides the most accurate shooter, so his name is Oko. The second is Tour, a healthy fellow. And, finally, the thin and lanky Gray.
6. "The Bremen Town Musicians": what instruments did the characters play
On the Internet, you can find a joke that The Bremen Town Musicians is the only story in which the bassist got a girl. And she appeared due to the fact that the Troubadour supposedly plays this instrument. Also, of course, because of stereotypes about bass players, but now it's not about them.
In fact, the protagonist clearly has a guitar in his hands, he even plays chords. And the confusion arose due to the fact that only three strings were drawn on the instrument. It is clear that the matter is simply in the conventions of animation, but in reality there are similar tools. For example, on cigarbox guitars, which are assembled from cigar boxes, often have three or four strings.
It may also surprise the moment when the Troubadour plays his instrument with a bow. But this way of sound extraction is quite common. For example, so acted Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin.
The cat, by the way, also has a guitar, but of an unusual square shape. Here is the dog playing bass. He even holds the instrument neck up, as if it were a double bass. Rooster in the second series plays the drums. And the donkey often just puts on a show, although in the second episode he even sings.
7. "House for Kuzka": in what order to watch cartoons
The author of this text, in various articles and podcasts dedicated to franchises and movie universes, argues that films should always be watched in the order in which they were released, regardless of the chronology of the plot. That is, inStar Wars"First, you should familiarize yourself with the fourth or sixth episodes, and only then with the first or third.
But there is one exception to this rule - cartoons about Kuzya. The thing is that in the original story by Tatyana Alexandrova "Kuzka in a new apartment" the main the hero meets the girl Natasha, settles in her house, and then begins to talk about his past. Now it's called "flashback".
But when they filmed the first part of the story called "The House for Kuzka", they forgot to mention that in the continuation of the "Adventures of the brownie" earlier events will be revealed. Therefore, it is now more logical to first turn on the second series, then the first, and then the third and fourth. Then the story will develop in chronological order.
8. "Dog in Boots": what's wrong with the name of the cartoon
Perhaps this is the funniest detail that many did not pay attention to. Cartoon Yefim Hamburg retells the plot of the novel by Alexandre Dumas "Three Musketeers”, only all the characters are shown as animals. And its name, obviously, parodies Charles Perrault's fairy tale "Puss in Boots".
There is just one subtlety. In this cartoon, neither dogs nor cats don't wear boots! Everyone goes exclusively barefoot, so to speak about animals.
