Unlike installments, equipment can be provided with a full range of prepaid services.
Apple is working on a new subscription service for the iPhone and other hardware products. About it writes Bloomberg. According to the sources of the publication, the ownership of the device will involve a monthly fee, as is the case with software services.
The main idea is to make the process of buying an iPhone or iPad equal to paying for iCloud storage or an Apple Music subscription every month. Apple plans to allow customers to sign up for hardware with the same Apple ID and App Store account they use today to purchase apps.
The program will differ from the installment plan in that the monthly fee will not be equal to the price of the device divided by 12 or 24 months. Rather, the fees will be much higher, but along with the gadget, the buyer will have access to services. While the project is in development, so there is little specifics.
Experts believe that the introduction of equipment subscription will be a major change in strategy for the company, which usually sells devices immediately at full price, sometimes in installments or with operator subsidies connections. This could help Apple increase revenue and make its devices more affordable for consumers who aren't ready to shell out $1,000 or more right away.
