Take can not be left: what things to take with you when moving abroad
Miscellaneous / / March 13, 2022
It is better to pack the electronics in the original box and grab the checks. But it is not necessary to carry a supply of antibiotics.
The documents
Everywhere you need a passport, money and a bank card. It is important to check if Mir is accepted in the country of destination. Now operations on such a card availableHow to get and where to use the Mir card / State Duma in Armenia, Turkey, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Vietnam. It will also be possible to pay with Mir in the future in UAEMir cards began to be accepted in the UAE / RIA Novosti. Wherever you decide to go, you should take cash in foreign currency with you, but not more than the established limitMovement of cash and monetary instruments / Federal Customs Service at 10,000 dollars.
Further, the package of necessary papers depends on the country to which you are going. For example, in Armenia canInformation on the rules for granting an entry visa to the Republic of Armenia / Embassy of Armenia in the Russian Federation
to enter on a Russian passport without a visa for up to 180 days. Also in Georgia acceptGeorgian visa information / Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia without a foreigner, but there is no direct air connection with the country, and by land you will need a good reason for a pass - an invitation for treatment, study or work. For example, documents from the university, a contract or a voucher for procedures in a Georgian sanatorium. If there are no problems with a foreign passport, then the list of countries for moving without a pre-arranged visa is still quite wide. In Israel, Russians do not need permission to cross the borders for the first 90 days, Turkey, Egypt, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates issue visas upon arrival, and for Sri Lanka, you can apply for an entry permit in advance online.
Do not forget that each state has its own length of stay and anti-COVID requirements: a PCR test, a serological test, and vaccination certificate.
When passports, vaccination certificates and PCR test results are already in the folder with documents, attach to them:
- birth and marriage certificates,
- education diplomas,
- driver's license,
- military ID.
It is better to add to the main package of documents:
- bank statement,
- medical insurance,
- certificate of non-conviction,
- confirmation of the reason for the move,
- work book,
- TIN,
- medical records and prescriptions, if needed.
It is advisable to translate the documents into the language of the country you are leaving for, certify the copies at the consulate and undergo an apostille to confirm the legality according to international standards. If the move is urgent, such formalities will have to be omitted. Apostilles for each document are put in different departments, and the quest to obtain them is not a quick one.
Prepare for transport pets. Even with an official veterinary passport and annual vaccinations, additional procedures may be needed, such as chipping and pedigree registration.
As a general rule, more documents are better than fewer.
If you want to carry a minimum of paper copies, scan the less important documents and save them digitally. When the folder is ready, go back to the website of the embassy of the selected state and check the latest entry rules. Remember to make sure you don't have any unpaid fines and utility debts, otherwise there may be more difficulties when crossing the border.
Equipment with boxes and checks
Laptops, tablets and phones are something that is beyond doubt and immediately finds itself in the “green” assembly zone. Send other small-sized devices for daily use there:
- smart watch,
- electric toothbrushes,
- headphones,
- hard drives,
- power banks,
- road steamers,
- game consoles,
- vibrators,
- hair dryers and curling irons.
With gadgets that are larger than a laptop, it’s worth considering: it’s cheaper to transport or buy a new one abroad. But devices like a printer, a home grill or a waffle iron are a “red zone”. It is better to sell them or leave them to relatives.
Do not forget to prepare a bag with wires, chargers and other accessories. Make a list and under each device write its “suitcase”. For example, for laptops it could be:
- case,
- charging,
- additional keyboards,
- routers,
- mice and mats for them,
- flash drives,
- socket adapters,
- tee or extension
- HDMI and other cables,
- audio headsets.
Take care of receipts and original boxes - all this can be useful at customs. Especially if there is a lot of equipment and it is new.
Medications
If you need special medications, try to get extra prescriptions before you move. Many medicines abroad are dispensed more strictly or not sold at all. And it will also be useful to get a small road first aid kit. Painkillers, antipyretics, plasters, antiseptics, sorbents, allergy medications - everyone has their own proven quick response kit.
But it’s not worth it to buy antibiotics and other serious drugs at random - self-medication is not beneficial anywhere. If you get sick in a new place, the insurance doctor will issue a prescription for the necessary medicines.
Cloth
With things, the rule is the opposite of documents: it is better to take less than more. In choosing clothes, be guided by the climate of the country: it makes no sense to bring a pair of boots to warm climes. Moving can be perceived as a great incentive to finally throw out the "home" pants, stretched T-shirts and holey sneakers for the dacha. Arrange a strict selection of the inhabitants of the closet and remember what you have been wearing for the last year.
Things that you have not touched even once during the season are unlikely to be useful to you.
Collect several bows for different weather. Try to bring clothes that go well together to save space. Even if you forget something, you can buy it on the spot.
Houseware
Use the holiday kit rule - take what usually goes with you for two or three weeks of vacation: towels, cosmetics and personal hygiene products. You can bring one set of bed linen. But with the dishes it is better to part with friends at home. In rented housing, you can get everything you need, and the transportation of fragile and heavy goods is an unpredictable and expensive process.
If you are waiting for an unfurnished apartment, you can take a couple of basic cutlery, a small frying pan or pot. They will not break during transportation, but will help to avoid unnecessary expenses in the first days. Razors, combs or your favorite perfume should be taken away - they will not take up much space and will definitely come in handy. And experienced "inhabitants of the world" are advised to bring a good screwdriver. Send other tools to parents or friends for safekeeping. If there is space left in your suitcase, you can take with you:
- sunglasses,
- umbrella,
- thermo mug,
- sewing kit,
- sleep mask and earplugs
- manicure set.
Memorable little things
The first time in a new country, many feel lonely. It's normal to be bored, even if you've made an informed decision to change your place of residence. In such situations, an old photo with friends or a photo from the wedding of parents can be a calming talisman. Swipe a magnet from the fridge into your bag, take a figurine from the shelf, put an old note in your wallet before leaving the house - they will cheer you up in moments of nostalgia.
