Doc was always exclusive and recognizable chip OS X. And this is no accident, because it is a convenient tool that provides quick access to frequently used applications, links to folders, Finder'u and baskets. In addition to this, there are stored all minimized windows applications. In short, the dock is an indispensable thing, which is used without exception.
Despite the fact that you can arrange the icons on your own, customize their size, magnification and the position of the dock is not available to you such a simple option as a division of icons together. Agree, much nicer to add a separator between applications in different categories (for example, office applications, and system utilities), thereby creating a distinction dock area. So much easier to navigate if you have a large number of icons, and the form of such an orderly dock is much more pleasant to the eye. Established settings do not provide this functionality, but you can work around this by using a trick. Besides, it is quite simple!

One the easiest ways to add a separator between icons in the dock - to create a fake web application with a transparent icon, and place it in the right place among the other icons. This can be done with the help of third party tools, but we will not resort to the use of their facilities and do everything built-in tools OS X. Especially because we will need only the Finder and Preview.
Step 1: Create and copy the transparent image to the clipboard
- Make a screenshot by pressing ⇧⌘3 and open his (desktop)
- select all with the mouse (or ⌘A) And click ⌫
- Now copy our transparent image to the clipboard
Step 2: Create a fake web application with a transparent icon
- open the Finder and create a new folder in any location
- Rename the folder by adding our name at the end of expansion .app and confirm the change
- Open the properties of our folder that will appear now as the application (⌘I)
- We click on the top of the window and click on the current icon ⌘VTo replace it with a clear picture of our
Everything! Now it remains only to put our application separator in the right place at the dock. For example, looks like this after my dock described "customizing".
Bear in mind the following points:
- the dock will display only one instance of our application create fake, so to create multiple spacers simply duplicate our fake web application: right click — Duplicate (or ⌘D)
- the system thinks that the separator is a full application and displays the name, so it is better to use some kind of a short title
- if you click on the divider system will try to run it as a normal application and immediately throw an error, but I'm sure you will not do it

This trick will be very useful to owners of Macs with a big diagonal, because a whole bunch of icons placed in its dock, which does not separate. With customized dividers dock will have a very different, neat and orderly appearance.
