5 lists that will propel your career forward
Miscellaneous / / January 26, 2022
For professional growth, it is useful to write down who inspires you and what requirements are indicated in vacancies, but not only.
Many people like to make and maintain a variety of lists: favorite movies, books read or desires. But few people think that lists can inspire new achievements and even improve productivity. This is especially true of career lists, and among them there are five favorites that will allow you to take your professional activity to the next level.
1. List of career achievements
It is the simplest and most important. It will help you understand where your career is heading and what you want to achieve.
The structure of such a list can be any. It all depends on how it is more convenient for you to fix your victories. It is better to write down the achievements for the year. But if your company practices evaluating the work of employees for a certain period, for example, once every six months, it makes sense to divide the list into such time blocks.
The detail of the list is also up to you: add only the most basic to it, or list in detail everything related to your successful projects.
2. List of professional qualities and grades
If you often receive testimonials, recommendations, or grades for your work, create a separate list for them. It will help you monitor progress and identify areas in which you should deepen your competence.
If you don't get formal references at work, you can write down the praise and criticism you hear when you receive feedback from supervisors. This will also allow you to work effectively on yourself.

3. List of people whose careers inspire you
Surely you can name several specialists from various fields at once, whose career paths motivate you. Take the time to write down their names. Compare the professional progress of these people with your own. Determine what draws you to their career and how they got there. Try to figure out how you can apply their experience to your situation.
Let's say you're interested in Steve Jobs or Elon Musk. Each of them revolutionized and changed their field. Ask yourself what you can do to transform your professional field. It will expand your boundaries.
4. List of companies you respect
It will be especially useful if you decide to change jobs. Then, first of all, you will look for vacancies in these companies.
You can break this list into categories. For example, in one include companies whose values appeal to you, in the other - companies that you like with their creative approach to creating a product, and so on.
Try using this list along with a list of people whose careers inspire you. Let's say that one of the companies that you are in awe of has a very professional designer or copywriter. Such a specialist can easily be added to the list of those who motivate you.
5. List of vacancies in other companies
This is a slightly unusual, but very interesting and useful list. It should include a description of vacancies for positions at your current level and above.
Such a list will help you clearly define what skills you need in order to become a highly qualified and sought-after specialist in your field.
