iSIM technology developed mobile operator Vodafone, chipset manufacturer Qualcomm Technologies and Thales, which produces information systems for the aerospace, military and marine industries. Foldable became the first smartphone with iSIM Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, more precisely, its special version. A virtual SIM card was built into the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, and a special Thales iSIM operating system was used to manage mobile capabilities.

Unlike eSIMs, the new virtual cards do not require a separate chip. Embedding an iSIM in the CPU also provides increased performance, more available memory, and tighter integration within the system.

In fact, iSIM can be used in existing devices that are not adapted to mobile operators at all. Virtual cards - and with them the mobile Internet - can appear in laptops, virtual reality platforms, IoT gadgets,
