Samsung announces flagship Exynos 2200 processor with AMD graphics

Contrary to rumors about the full transition to Qualcomm processors, Samsung announced new top chipset Exynos 2200. It is manufactured on a 4nm process and has an Xclipse graphics accelerator based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture.

• The manufacturer claims that thanks to the most advanced Arm-based processor cores available today on market, and the upgraded Neural Engine (NPU) Exynos 2200 will provide unrivaled gaming opportunities.
• The Xclipse GPU module has become one of the main advantages of the chip. According to Samsung, this is a one-of-a-kind hybrid chip that brings smartphones closer to console-level graphics capabilities.
• With AMD's high-performance RDNA 2 architecture, Xclipse is able to implement hardware acceleration support ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS) previously only available on PCs, laptops and consoles.
• The Exynos 2200 is one of the first on the market to feature the latest Armv9 processor cores, which offer significant security and performance improvements over Armv8.

• The chipset has 8 cores and a three-cluster structure, consisting of one powerful flagship Cortex-X2 core, three large cores Cortex-A710 with a balanced ratio of performance and efficiency and four energy-efficient cores Cortex-A510.
• The performance of the NPU has doubled, enabling more parallel computing and better AI performance.
• The new 3GPP Release 16 5G modem supports sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands. And with the new E-UTRAN air interface, it can increase data rates up to 10 Gbps.
• The Exynos 2200 Image Signal Processor (ISP) architecture supports sensors up to 200 MP. At 30 frames per second (fps), the ISP supports up to 108MP in single camera mode and 64MP + 36MP in dual camera mode. 4K HDR and 8K video recording is also supported.

The Exynos 2200 processor has already been sent to mass production. It will probably debut in the Galaxy S22 flagships, which are expected to be announced in February. Versions of smartphones with this processor are traditionally released in Russia and a number of other countries. In the US and Canada, there must be modifications with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1.
