Apple ended support for iOS 14

With the release of iOS 15 Apple promised continue to support iOS 14 — essentially making updating to the new version optional. iOS 14 users continued to receive interim updates and security patches, but now everything has changed.

Along with the release of iOS 15.2, the Cupertino-based company stopped releasing two security updates at the same time. If earlier iOS 14.8 users had the option to install iOS 14.8.1 or the latest version of iOS 15 in the updates section, now they are only offered to upgrade to iOS 15.

With the release of iOS 15.2.1, the choice has not returned, so users are left to either update or deprive the smartphone of important security updates.

This decision is associated with the recent report about the distribution of iOS. Although a little less than 4 months have passed since the release of iOS 15, as of January 11, only 63% of iPhone devices work on this version. Previously, major system updates were distributed much faster. Perhaps it was the desire to improve performance that led to the rejection of further support for iOS 14.
