Share experiences in real time via video and chat.
During a pandemic, it is not always possible to get together with friends for your favorite movie or a new episode of the series. Do not deny yourself this pleasure will help special sharing services. We have already talked about the most popular of them. Today we will talk about Flickall, a free extension for Chrome that allows you to organize joint viewing of content on popular streaming sites.
The plugin works very simply: after installation, when you start any video from compatible sources, the Flickall logo is displayed in the corner for 10 seconds. By clicking on it, you can start a co-browsing session.
To do this, just allow the browser to use the camera and microphone and click Start Party. The Smart Mic option will turn on the microphone only if the video playback is paused, and the Select to keep video controls flag will prevent other participants from controlling the player.
To invite a friend, you need to click Copy Invite Link and send him the copied link. The new member will also have to give the necessary permissions in the browser, and he will connect to the stream.
All friends see the same broadcast interface as you. It is located in the sidebar on the right, which can be collapsed. A video of each of the participants is displayed on top, you can speak and send text messages to the chat below.
You don't have to worry about privacy. Data is not stored on servers, but is sent directly from one user to another. At the same time, by default, each participant is assigned a random name and an avatar of one of the popular movie characters. You can change them if you wish.
The video content itself is not broadcast over the network, so its original quality is preserved. However, to view, each of the participants must have their own accounts in the respective services. At the end of the viewing, you need to call up the menu and click Exit Party.
Flickall contains no ads and is completely free. The extension currently works in Chrome and supports Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Disney+Hotstar and Zee5 popular in India. In the future, the developers plan to add even more services.
