Brilliant roles of various actresses and even a slightly insane musical are waiting for you.
1. Princess in love
Princess in love
- USA, 1996.
- Drama, biography.

- IMDb: 4.1.
The TV movie tells a scandalous story about the secret romance of the Princess of Wales with Captain James Hewitt. Once this news shocked not only the royal court, but the whole world.
Diana (by the way, the picture came out during her lifetime) was played by Julie Cox, and then many viewers did not like this choice. The fact is that the actress was a brunette and, moreover, much shorter than the princess.
2. Diana: the musical
Diana: The Musical
- USA, 2021.
- Musical, drama, biography.
- Duration: 117 minutes.
- IMDb: 4.7.
Probably the strangest piece about Diana of the entire collection. The musical based on the princess's biography was supposed to be staged on Broadway back in 2019, but due to the coronavirus, it got to Netflix earlier.
The directness with which the authors told the story of the life of the late princess,
Spanish shame. But if the works with a hint of trash do not scare you at all, and even amuse you, you can safely turn on "Diana: The Musical".3. Diana: Her True Story
Diana: Her True Story
- UK, 1993.
- Drama, biography.
- Duration: 112 minutes.
- IMDb: 4.9.
The television movie, based on a book by English journalist Andrew Morton, was released when Lady Dee was still married to Prince Charles. But even then, many realized that not everything was good in their marriage, and a year after the show, the couple stopped living together.
In general, during the life of the princess, several feature films were released about her. But it was the "True Story" that was remembered by the audience most of all due to the fact that it was told very realistically and, moreover, it touched upon the reasons for the long-term depression of the "Queen of Hearts". Diana was played here by the actress Serena Scott Thomas.
4. Diana: The Last Days of the Princess
Diana: Last Days of a Princess
- USA, UK, France, Germany, Russia, 2007.
- Documentary, drama.
- Duration: 89 minutes.
- IMDb: 5.4.
Among all the documentaries about Lady Dee, this one is worth highlighting. The creators decided to combine archive footage and scenes with the participation of actors. Thanks to this technique, it was possible to create a very complete picture of the days leading up to the car accident.
At the same time, the authors have also achieved a surprisingly voluminous portrait of the princess. In the film, she appears to be the most ordinary person, far from ideal and capable of rash actions.
5. Diana: Love Story
Diana
- Great Britain, France, Sweden, Belgium, 2013.
- Biography, drama, melodrama.
- Duration: 112 minutes.
- IMDb: 5.5.
After parting with Prince Charles, Lady Dee devotes herself entirely to charity. While doing it, she meets the Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Khan. This is how her penultimate and most important novel in her life begins.
Based on Kate Snell's bestseller Diana: Her Last Love, Oliver Hirschbiegel's film follows the last two years of the princess's life. It could have turned out to be quite an interesting movie, but the authors, alas, failed to reveal the personality of Lady Dee: the picture cannot be called a deep work.
As a result, critics simply destroyed the tape. In addition, many viewers were embarrassed that australian actress Naomi Watts is absolutely not like Diana. Even a small false nose, which the make-up artists added for similarity, did not help the case. Although you can watch a movie if you are interested in the late novels of the Princess of Wales and are ready to forgive Watts for some external discrepancy.
6. Spencer
Spencer
- UK, Germany, USA, Chile, 2021.
- Biography, drama, melodrama.
- Duration: 117 minutes.
- IMDb: 6.9.
Princess Diana arrives at Sandringham Palace for a Christmas weekend with the royal family. But she feels like a stranger at this holiday, and her marriage to Charles is bursting at the seams: the prince almost openly cheats on her. The only bright moments in her life are the time she spends with her sons.
The project of the Spanish director Pablo Larrain is very different from the previous films about Diana. The director focused on just a few days in the life of the princess. And if you're looking to find out more of the real facts, Spencer is not for you. This is absolutely not a historical picture, but something between psychological drama and horror.
Larrain's goal was not to reproduce the events as authentically as possible, but to show on the screen the tragedy of a woman imprisoned in a palace as if in a cage. And in this he was greatly helped by a great game. Kristen Stewart, who literally reincarnated as her heroine.
7. Queen
The queen
- UK, USA, France, Italy, 2005.
- Drama, biography, history.
- Duration: 103 minutes.
- IMDb: 7.3.
After the death of everyone's favorite Princess Diana, the British cannot recover from the shock. But the royal family behaves as usual, and this makes the people very angry. Prime Minister Tony Blair, meanwhile, is trying to convince Elizabeth II of the need for a public display of mourning in order to win the approval of the people.
Quite an unexpected film about Diana for a selection, because the princess herself does not appear in it, and the plot is not dedicated to her. But on the other hand, The Queen shows how the august family reacts with almost relief to the death of Charles's ex-wife.
8. Crown
- UK, 2016 - present.
- Drama, history, biography.
- Duration: 4 seasons.
- IMDb: 8.3.
One of the most expensive and watched Netflix series, it tells the story of the Windsor family from the time of Queen Elizabeth II's marriage in 1947 to the present day. In the fourth season, it was Princess Diana's turn. The plot covers the period of her relationship with Charles from 1977 to 1991.
It all starts with Lord Mountbatten advising the prince to forget about married Camilla Parker Bowles and marry an innocent girl from a good family - Diana Spencer. This is how Charles and Diana become engaged. And at first, the princess does not realize that this marriage is just a political move. Only later, having gained experience, she realizes that her marriage was a mistake.
You will definitely fall in love with the image created on the screen British Emma Corrin, known for the Pennyworth TV series. The actress was able to very accurately show the transformation of Diana from a cheerful teenage girl into an unhappy single woman.
In many ways, the authors interpreted the history of Charles's relationship with his wife so boldly that some viewers were even indignant: in their opinion, such an artistic version of historical events is harmful to the royal family.

Journalist, I have been working in the media for several years. She studied to be a psychologist, but she began to study the history of cinema and realized that fictional people are even more interesting than real people. With equal love I write about the treasures of the French new wave and the new Netflix, I adore Charlie Kaufman and Terry Zwigoff, a fan of sloburn and niche horror.
