The Chinese giant OPPO demonstrated the Air Glass augmented reality device at the INNO DAY 2021 conference. This is a monocle with one arm that can be connected to the arm of regular glasses using a magnetic connector. The gadget weighs only 30 grams.
The manufacturer calls Air Glass an "assisted reality" headset, which aims to provide the user with useful information without having to navigate to the screen of one of their gadgets. It can be some kind of text, notifications, calculations, navigation elements and more.
All data is output to a 0.7mm lens surface using a tiny 0.5cc Spark Micro Projector. cm. It is hidden in a metal case and is powered by a Micro-LED panel that provides picture brightness up to 1400 nits. The image can be displayed in 16 or 256 grayscale with backlight.
On the outer surface of the bow, there is a large touch zone for operating the device. There are also two microphones and a speaker, allowing you to take incoming calls to your smartphone or even listen to music. Responsible for the performance is the Snapdragon 4100 chip with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules for pairing with other devices and going online.
In addition to reading notifications and displaying auxiliary data, Air Glass supports real-time speech translation between two monocle users. So far, these are only Chinese and English, but in the future there will be support for Japanese and Korean. Teleprompter functionality is also promised, which will be useful for presentations.
As for the autonomy, it claims only 3 hours of active use and up to 40 hours in standby mode. A special case with a USB-C port is used for recharge.
Currently, Air Glass can only work with OPPO Watch 2 and smartphones running ColorOS 11 or newer. New will enter on sale in China in black and white in early 2022. Pricing has not yet been announced.
