We consider Denis Villeneuve's Dune to be the best film of 2021.
The adaptation of the famous novel by Frank Herbert is dedicated to the young Paul Atreides (Timothy Shalame), who, together with his parents and the entire clan, moves to the sandy planet of Arrakis. By order of the emperor, the hero's father must take over from Baron Harkonnen the management of the extraction of spice - the most important substance that makes space travel possible. But the evil predecessor does not want to give up power.
Director Denis Villeneuve - a fan of the original book. He decided to keep the plot close to the original and include only half of the novel in the first film. Because of this, the picture turned out to be very unhurried: the main action begins in the last third, and before that, the viewer is introduced to the main characters and an unusual world.
But at the same time “Dune"Looks incredibly large-scale and beautiful. The special effects are striking in their scope, and the music of Hans Zimmer, combined with the magnificent sound design, allows the audience to fully immerse themselves in the story. Villeneuve again, as in Blade Runner 2049, combines high-budget fiction with almost auteur cinematography. At the same time, "Dune" primarily remains a story about finding your place in life.
The combination of stunning visuals, an A-class cast and a dramatic storyline make Dune the premier film of the year.
