On January 1, as part of the New Year's Billion draw in 2022, over two billion rubles will be drawn in the lottery. This is, first of all, the main prize in the amount of 1 billion rubles. There will also be one hundred prizes, one million rubles each. Many other awards are planned - in monetary terms.

According to the rules of "Russian Lotto", the owner of the ticket, who will be able to cross out all 15 numbers before others in any field - lower or upper - will become the owner of a billion rubles - the main prize. If on the 15th move none of the participants can do this, the game will continue. The facilitator will take out the kegs until someone has collected all 15 numbers on any part of the ticket. Such a scheme ensures that the billion is played out for sure.

The probability that the main prize of the solemn 1421 edition will go to one participant is more than 60%. But it is quite possible that winning combinations will be in multiple tickets. Then their owners will share the 2022 New Year Billion from the Russian Lotto equally.

What taxes will you have to pay on your winnings?

Lottery winnings are subject to the same taxes as the ordinary income of individuals, so the actual amount that the winners will receive in their hands will be slightly less.

There is no need to pay taxes on winnings of up to four thousand rubles. If you win from four thousand to five million rubles, the tax will be 13% of the amount; for the winnings in excess of five million - 15%.

The deductions are added up. For example, if you win 10 million rubles, you will pay 13% of the first five million and 15% of the rest. As a result, the tax will amount to 1.4 million rubles:

5 million * 13% + 5 million * 15% = 650 thousand + 750 thous. = 1.4 million

These tax rates apply to Russian citizens. If you do not have Russian citizenship, then the tax rate will be higher - 30%.

But you don't have to calculate interest and go to the bank with a large amount. The tax on winnings from 15 thousand rubles is withheld by the operator or distributor of the lottery, who in this case, in accordance with the law, is a tax agent. If the prize is 4-15 thousand rubles, you will have to submit a tax return in the form of 3-NDFL by April 30, 2023 and pay tax by July 15, 2023.

And for 2020, targeted deductions from the sale of state lottery under the Stoloto brand made up 2.4 billion rubles. Is it a lot or a little? Here's an example to understand: since the beginning of the year, the authorities have allocated 2 billion for similar purposes, and the construction of six regional hockey centers in 2021-2023 will cost about 2.3 billion rubles.
