What is kudo
Kudo is a mixed martial art that combines techniques from karate, judo, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, Thai and European boxing. How kudo differs from other martial arts
Variety of techniques and techniques
Compared to other martial arts, kudo sports fights are as close as possibleKudo / Russian Union of Martial Arts to a real battle.
Alexey Gordeev
Coach of the highest qualification category, All-Russian sports judge, black belt 4 dan kudo
We have allowed wrestling techniques, strikes on the ground (when at least one of the fighters is kneeling or lying), knee strikes from a stand to all parts of the body, and even head strikes.
The restrictions apply only to very dangerous and unsportsmanlike techniques, such as blows to the throat, to the back of the head and joints to break, attack from behind and finish off a lying opponent in full contact.
Serious protective equipment
Almost in any kind of martial arts during the competition there are some elements of protection: mouthguard (protection for the teeth), pads on the arms and legs, sometimes - a vest-protector for the body and a helmet with an open face.
It can save you from serious traumabut does not exclude, for example, facial cuts. Kudo does not have this problem.
During fights, athletes wear a special helmet with a plastic mask, which minimizes injuries, saves from fractures and cuts.

Alexey Gordeev says that children have even more serious equipment. In addition to the helmet, they wear shields on their arms and legs, as well as a special vest - a cuirass - to protect the body.
What can be achieved with kudo
Increased endurance, strength and flexibility
In addition to combat training, kudo includes a wide variety of other training modes: strength training in a circular format, long distance running, sprint, interval running.
Also, at the end of the lesson, they must do exercises for general physical fitness. The sports group performs 100 push ups, squats and abdominal movements, teenage group - 70, children - 30-40. And so every lesson. Weighted exercises with dumbbells and resistance bands can also be added.
Depending on the training cycle, the training can include circular interval complexes for the development of power, general and strength endurance, speed-strength qualities.
Alexey Gordeev
We use circuit training with both weights and bags for punches, kicks, and speed. Each station (exercise) takes 2 minutes, with a 1-minute break between them. The workout includes 9-10 stations, sometimes - 12. As we approach the competition, we work in shorter intervals of 10-15 seconds, at maximum intensity and with minimal rest.
In addition, workouts necessarily include exercises for stretching all major muscle groups, which improves joint mobility and helps to remove restrictions that often arise due to age and a sedentary lifestyle.
Improving body condition
Regular exercise can help you significantly increase your energy expenditure. If you do not compensate for the calories burned with large portions of food, after 3-6 months you may well lose a few extra pounds without dieting.
According to the reviewS.H. Chin, C. N. Kahathuduwa, M. Binks. Physical activity and obesity: what we know and what we need to know / Obesity reviews scientific research, 3-5 medium- and high-intensity workouts per week is enough to get rid of 2-3% of excess weight within six months without restricting caloric intake.
Moreover, strength training in kudo classes will help to strengthen the muscles and make the body visually more toned.
Development of volitional qualities
Training instills discipline and teaches you to overcome difficulties on the way to your goal. Moreover, in one studyA. Johnstone, P. MarΓ-Beffa. The Effects of Martial Arts Training on Attentional Networks in Typical Adults found that practicing martial arts improves people's ability to stay focused and ignore distractions, an important criterion for success in any endeavor.
Thus, training will not only improve your physical fitness, but also help you become more focused, alert and purposeful.
Who can do kudo
Training in this martial art is suitable for people of any gender and skill level.
Alexey Gordeev believes that children should start at the age of 9-10. At the same time, you can come into sports as an adult, and even in old age, to achieve sports results, or simply to have fun and maintain health.
Alexey Gordeev
Sometimes people come to study at the age of 19 and in 2-3 years they fulfill the standard for a master of sports. I also had a man who was 59 years old. And he did training with everyone, tried.
Who is not allowed to do kudo
Kudo has no special contraindications. But since you will have to train intensely and perform, among other things, explosive and strength exercises, you need to soberly assess your health.
If you have a large excess weight, problems with the cardiovascular system, old injuries or other disorders of the musculoskeletal system, before attending a workout, ask your doctor if you can exercise.
Of course, even healthy people have a certain risk of injury, but thanks to the protective equipment and control of sensei, kudo is unlikely to be more dangerous than other contact sports.
What you need to start doing kudo
You can come to the first classes wearing comfortable sports clothes. Then you will need to purchase special training clothing and protective equipment:
- Great Danes (kimonos for martial arts);
- regular boxing gloves;
- boxing bandages;
- shin guards on the legs;
- mouth guard.
To participate in the competition, you will also need to buy a helmet, and children and juniors will also need a cuirass to protect the hull.
What awaits you in kudo classes
Training can vary greatly depending on the club, the level of the athletes and the stage of preparation for the competition, but the main points are the same.
Any lesson starts with warm-up and active stretching. Then the basic technique of punches and kicks is practiced on the spot, after that - work in pairs and other tasks.
At the end of the lesson, exercises for the development of general physical fitness are performed, and stretching and relaxation ends.
How skill in kudo is assessed
In total, there are 10 steps in kudo for students (kyu) and 10 for masters (dan). Each student grade is markedDegrees and belts / KUDO Federation of Russia, Moscow Regional Branch in Odintsovo the special color of the belt and / or the number of stripes on it. Attestation for student kyu takes place every six months. This is an exam in which you show your skills and, if successful, move to a new level.
If you are ready to surrender, you can prove your skills before the commission and get a new belt or strip. The exact content of the exam depends on the level you are applying for.
Alexey Gordeev
There is an international certification program for each student kyu, which includes the technique of punches and kicks, movement in various stances, with or without punches, work in pairs - an attack option, a defense option with the end of the transfer to the ground - throw. At the end, fights are surrendered. How much and what - depends on the belt.
Certification for masters takes place once a year, but to get a new dan it is no longer enough to show oneself worthily in fights. It is also necessary to conduct teaching activities, such as teaching a group of at least 20 people or educating kudo instructors.
Why participate in kudo competitions
Official tournaments are held in many regions of Russia every year. The winners go to the Russian Kudo Championship, which, in turn, is a qualifying round for the World Cup.
