Disney's Encanto will appeal to both children and adults

On November 25, the Russian screens will see the cartoon "Encanto" - the 60th full-length work of Disney. Byron Howard and Jared Bush, who have already proven their skills, were in charge of the production. They were the ones who shot the magnificent Zootopia in 2016.

This time, the authors created a completely intimate story: the action is dedicated to members of the same family and takes place in their home. It turned out to be a little naive and the most kind cartoon that reminds of the most simple but important truths.

The story of a familiar family

Once upon a time, the first representatives of the Madrigal family had to leave their homeland. But a miracle helped them: a magic candle created an incredible living house and a safe refuge for the fugitives. Since then, each of the relatives from childhood has received some kind of special strength: from the ability to change appearance to control plants.

But Mirabelle remained an ordinary girl. Of course, her relatives love her, but the heroine cannot find her place in any way. One day, she notices that the magic is disappearing, and the house is crumbling. However, those around them do not want to notice these problems until it is too late.

Literally from the first scenes, everyone who grew up, or at least visited large families, recognizes their relatives or friends in the characters. And this is the first and main plus of "Encanto". For example, in the cartoon there is an incredibly strong Louise, who can easily lift a house and therefore take on all the difficult work. And the mistress of flowers Isabela is the main beauty, who is predicted to marry profitably. There are many younger children who are adopting the behavior of their relatives. And the matriarch Alma clearly organizes the life of the others.

Characters fulfill typical family roles. And that is why "Encanto", despite the Latin American surroundings and magic, in half an hour it will become the most understandable story.

For the same reason, the main plot is so engaging. Indeed, very often members of an exemplary friendly family turn out to be traumatized people. The strong sometimes wants to be weak and imperfect. The beauty dreams of moving away from her image. And someone falls out of favor because they voice an unpleasant truth. And, unfortunately, preserving traditions is more important than the happiness of loved ones.

Perhaps a light and funny cartoon will remind you that you should think once more and ask your relatives what they really want. And just look at each other, not trying to hide the problems.

The plot is about finding yourself, not about the struggle

In recent years, Disney and its subsidiary Pixar have increasingly moved away from traditional heroes versus villains. So, in "Soul"And" Luka "talked about finding their place. And in the cartoon "Raya and the Last Dragon" monsters were presented as abstract as possible, without emphasizing their essence.

Encanto does more than just continue the trend. There is not a single negative character in the tape at all. It's not even a spoiler: hints of a single villain will fall apart in the first third of the plot. And Disney treats the national theme as superficially as possible: Colombian culture appears here only as an entourage, and the social component flickers only for a couple of minutes.

This cartoon is about finding yourself again. That is why Mirabelle is made the main character - a girl without special abilities. After all, complexes against the background of the success of others are very common in the family and in society as a whole. So you can take this story as a tragedy of a child who sees more successful relatives. It's just that in "Encanto" it is expressed in superpower, but in reality - in stories about "the son of my mother's friend." The very one that graduated from high school with a medal, opened a business and climbed Mount Everest.

And if you look a little wider, then the picture does show the essence of the era of social networks, where everyone is necessarily beautiful and successful. The most terrible thing in this world is to be an ordinary, unremarkable person.

Amazingly, in just one house and its surroundings, the authors of the cartoon simulate many life situations. Yes, these are not the most difficult and unexpected reflections. For example, in the work “Forward"They talked about family ties much more deeply, and in" Soul "they discussed the midlife crisis at all. But still, sometimes it is worth reminding that being ordinary is not a sentence.

Extravaganza of colors and dances

Even if none of the topics listed above seems close, Encanto is still worth a look. Simply because it is an incredibly beautiful cartoon. Of course for Disney works and Pixar this is a common thing. However, studios take on new heights every time.

First of all, it is worth noting the elaboration of the world itself. And here I immediately remember that the authors of Zootopia worked on "Encanto". V oscar-winning the cartoon showed the city to be absolutely fantastic, but very lively: with many details, background characters and various locations.

The new chamber work is no less good. The ever-moving house, affectionately called "Kasita" by the characters, looks like a full-fledged hero. And if you look closely at the situation, you can catch yourself thinking that the difference between live filming and computer graphics has completely disappeared. The same applies to landscapes: the foliage of the trees is constantly swaying, the flow of the river is almost felt by the skin.

Against the backdrop of these lively scenery, the main characters are constantly moving and dancing. Perhaps there are even too many musical numbers (almost a dozen). But all the compositions were written by one of the most fashionable and talented new authors - Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator of the famous musical "Hamilton"). By the way, his style is very easy to recognize: the characters regularly break from singing to recitative to driving rhythms.

Following the vibrant Latin American culture, "Encanto" periodically turns into an extravaganza of color: catchy clothes, crazy decor elements, exotic animals and plants. All this makes even the tragic moments of the cartoon part of one big carnival and helps to understand in advance that the characters will definitely be fine.

Disney's new work really wants to be called the perfect summer cartoon: bright, warm and very energetic. Unless it comes out in November - in June it made me happy with the same mood "Luke». Yes, perhaps "Encanto" is not the most profound and complex picture. But everyone should see it. After all, after such a story, it will become a little easier to get together for a family dinner without a quarrel, and at the same time to forgive yourself for not reaching any heights. It turns out to be very easy and fun therapy for the price of a movie ticket.
