Wear OS with Samsung is taking over the smartwatch market

The share in sales more than quadrupled in the quarter.
Google's Wear OS has never posed a big threat to Apple with its WatchOS. Watches from Cupertino have firmly established themselves in first place in sales worldwide, however, according to the latest statistics, new items from Samsung have a chance to intrigue this game.
By data research company Counterpoint Research, in the third quarter of 2021 Wear OS took a confident second place, increasing its share in sales from 4% to 17%. Such a leap is easily explained by the release of two models of watches Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, which now work not on Tizen OS, but on Wear OS, albeit with a shell to match its old system.
Counterpoint Research writes that in the third quarter in North America and Europe, Samsung smartwatches shipments took almost 60% of the market, while Apple's share dropped significantly due to Watch Series delays 7. However, on the world stage, this loss is barely noticeable for Apple - it retained its first place in global sales.
The success of the Galaxy Watch 4 not only narrowed the gap with Apple, but also took second place from Huawei with its Lite OS. The latter, by the way, is now inferior to the Amazfit brand from Huami, which also grew a little over the quarter.
As a reminder, the Galaxy Watch 4 is available in a basic version and a Classic version with a stricter design. Both got Latest 5nm Exynos W920 processor, 16GB internal memory, ECG function and blood pressure measurement. In Russia, they cost from 19,990 rubles.
Experts point out that the future of Wear OS in the smartwatch market cannot be based solely on the success of this new Samsung product. Further growth will require the company to move to more affordable models. Google, in turn, needs to provide its OS to more partners in order to make it more competitive.
