Scientists have determined the optimal time to go to bed

It is better not to stay up late, and it is not worth it too early either.
Researchers at the University of Exeter and Barking, Haveridge and Redbridge Hospitals in London examined the relationship between bedtime and the risk of cardiovascular disease. Results publishedAccelerometer-derived sleep onset timing and cardiovascular disease incidence: a UK Biobank cohort study in the European Heart Journal - Digital Health.
The study involved more than 88,000 Britons aged 43-79 years, who were followed for about 6 years. All of them filled out questionnaires, in which they talked about their lifestyle, physical activity and health. During the last 7 days, they also wore accelerometers, which made it possible to record the duration of sleep, its regularity and the time of falling asleep.
The researchers applied a series of Cox proportional hazards models to the data obtained, which made it possible to identify some patterns.
Over the entire observation period, 3,172 people (3.58%) faced cardiovascular diseases, of which 1 371 (43%) fell asleep after midnight, 1,196 (38%) - from 23:00 to 23:59, 473 (15%) - from 22:00 to 22:59, and 132 (4.2%) - before 22:00. An in-depth analysis of the participants' data, taking into account age, gender and other factors, showed that those who went to bed from 22:00 to 22:59 were less likely to get sick.
An additional model that controls the duration of sleep, its regularity and the established prerequisites for cardiovascular diseases, confirmed higher risks for sleep onset times before 22:00, 23:00 to 23:59 and after 00:00 (ratios 1.24, 1.12 and 1.25 respectively). Moreover, the association with an increased risk of developing diseases was stronger in women than in men.
